Day 3 - Tour of Auchentoshan, then travel from Glasgow to Oban via amazing Glencoe.

Isle of Mull and Iona.
Through the miraculous intervention of St Columba, our convoluted exhaustive travel to Iona ended in joy. Back to Oban via Mull despite missing our ferry ride. And the Laird of Duart Castle provided hope for all married men- left his wife on Lady’s Rock, simply for the incoming tide to teach an unforgettable lesson!

Fort Augustus on shore of Loch Ness
What started as the idea of a simple Dalwhinnie mountain-top visit, ended as a 3 distillery whirlwind. Realised that our whisky palate had matured to Scotsman level- we won’t accept any old dram

The big Macallan day. Degustation appreciated, but was it really worth the price? Wine pairing didn't pair. However, the distillery experience blew us away- truly once in a lifetime.
Speyside immersion- too many distilleries to count: Cardhu (bought a Cardhu and Mortlach), Cragganmore (2 more bottles), GlenAllachie...and more great drams at pubs in Craigellachie. Isle of Raasay was a winner. Most importantly, pies at Mackie butchers! Sleep and repeat tomorrow.

The big distillery day. Started at the Scalan- the hidden seminary functional for over 200 years after the reformation. A sobering stop. Then onto Glenlivet (dram of the tour), Glenfarclas, Aberlour and Strathisla (beautifully disappointing).
Managed to take a break with a 2nd dinner at the Highlander Inn- with more drams!

A day of long, magnificent driving- through the Cairngorms, via beautiful Braemar, arriving at our final destination of Leith.

A long day in Edinburgh
What a day- 14 hours in Edinburgh. Walked from Leith, climbed the famed Calton Hill, back and forward through central Edinburgh and Grassmarket. Even managed to get in a couple of drams at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society after visiting the Surgeons Museum. Finished with an interesting literary tour. Time for a foot massage!

Final full day
Finally, a good cappuccino for breakfast- almond milk none the less! Off to St Andrew's. Great historical golf course, but the cathedral only left butter memories of what was, and should be. And what a town- a mix of blizzards, betrayal, boisterous students, gliding and sprinting giants, great cheese, bookshops and shops. Went on return home via the scenic Fife Coastal road. Ended the night with a new friend, met at the SMWS Keith, then listened to his wisdom of food to direct us to a fine, seafood dinner. Scotland, we love thee.
